Ranking Virtual Half Marathon Firenze Run

A total of 258 participants took part in the Half Marathon Firenze, held in a virtual run version on 10 and 11 April, with runners from all over Italy and various foreign countries: Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Hungary, France, Holland, Germany, the Czech Republic and even Florida.

The numbers are encouraging, as we look forward to running again in the streets of Tuscany’s capital on October 31st. A total of 173 athletes crossed the finish line, albeit a symbolic one.

Uisp, the Florence committee of the Unione Italiana Sport Per Tutti (Italian Union of Sport for All), organiser of the event, had launched this formula to allow everyone to take part in the running event, albeit from a distance. The runners competed in city circuits, in compliance with anti-Covid regulations, while some preferred mountain or country routes. They all sent in their GPS picture with the race data and a selfie, as required by the rules.

“We have launched a virtual edition to allow runners to train for the extraordinary edition of the October 31st and at the same time to underline the date of the month of April in which the event is usually run – says the president of Uisp Firenze Marco Ceccantini – We have already put 10 April 2022 on the agenda for next year’s edition. I thank all those who have joined the initiative”.

Uisp Firenze would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the runners who took part in other races held on the dates of the HMF virtual run and who nevertheless wished to share their smiles and their

results: as they were involved in other competitions, their time was not logically included in the ranking, but their support in such a difficult moment has a strong symbolic value.

The appointment for the Florence Half Marathon through the streets and squares of the city of Florence remains for October 31st. The sponsors HOKA ONE ONE and ERREÀ are confirmed and Uisp thanks them for having shared the choice and renewed their trust.
