Half Marathon Florence postponed. Too many risks, better to be cautious

The Half Marathon Florence scheduled for April 11th has been postponed until 31 October. The decision has been taken by UISP – Unione Italiana Sport Per Tutti, organiser of the event, considering the current health emergency and the spread of viral variants with greater transmissibility, which impose a strong level of attention.

“We have waited, hoping to be able to hold the competition, which had already been postponed in 2020, but with just under two months to go before the event, we believe that health protection is the only way to go. Already aware of the possible difficulties, we had not reopened registration, keeping the registrations for those who had chosen us last year. We also talked to the municipal officers to get a clear picture of the possibilities and we believe that an event of international dimensions, as the Florence Half Marathon is now, must always protect participants, spectators and citizens. The Florence Half Marathon is not only an important sporting event, but, above all, a great celebration and, although with regret, we prefer to be cautious, postponing the event until next autumn. We hope that in the meantime the health situation will improve and that the vaccination plan will proceed quickly so that we can all meet again in the streets of the city”.

The sponsors HOKA ONE ONE and ERREÀ have confirmed their support and renewed their trust. For those who had already registered for the various races planned – HALF MARATHON – RUN in 2 – NON COMPETITIVE 8km and RUN/WALK 5 KM – the fee paid for the 2021 edition is confirmed at no additional cost.
